FLUX is a semi trad 42 ft narrowboat. U shaped narrowboat, single chined, flat bottomed, of traditional stern style. She is a vintage narrowboat built in 1972.

Essential Info

BSS – just passed her BSS (Oct 2024) so will be valid for the next four years. The BSS was done by the wonderful Rhy Killin and all papers are present. This means that FLUX is safe with all the correct ventilation measures, firefighting and safety measures and electrics.

FLUX has been well looked after and regularly blackened, with most recent blackenings done by Aquaduct Marina in 2022 using two-pack epoxy and Bronte Boats in Febuary 2024 using Temac marine paint (all paperwork present).

We bought the boat with a hull survey already done in 2021. The readings show the hull is sound and hull thickness runs from 4.4mm to 6mm on the baseplate. In addition to this, the boat came out of water in 2024 and had a visual inspection by Bronte Boats (this was not a commissioned hull survey report though!!).

FLUX has had a new stern gear and propeller fitted in 2024 by Bronte Boats (all paperwork present).

Her lisence is paid for until November 2025.

The boat had a full service in Aquaduct in 2022, and Aquaduct have fabricated new skin tanks for the boat in 2022, and replaced all hoses. They also replaced the anodes on the boat in 2022 (all paperwork present).

New swim tanks have been fabricated and fitted by Aqueduct marina in 2022.

FLUX has had new EXIDE Marine and Leisure batteries, a new battery charger and new crossover switch fitted by Bronte Boats in 2024.

The whole bilge area has been descaled, cleansed with BONDA Bilge and reconditioned protective Danboline bilge paint. There has been a new automatic bilge pump refitted in 2024 by Bronte Boats.

The fuel tank has a 200L capacity.

FLUX has had new electrics fitted throughout in 2022, and fitted with new 240 sockets by the mechanic who previously owed the boat in 2022. These have been checked by Portland Basin Marina 2023 and Bronte boats in 2024.

Her engine is a BMC 2.2 and has had new glow plugs fitted in 2024.

Flux has two large solar panels on the top of her and is filled with an EPEVER solar charge controller.

A new EDECOA 3000W power inverter has been fitted by Bronte Boats in 2023.

FLUX has a mooring in beautiful Baltimore Marina, Todmorden for £150 per month. If you would like to stay on the marina, you can have a conversation with Brontë Boats about whether you would be a good candidate for the mooring. If successful, the mooring can be transferred over to you for a fee. Bronte Boats provide gas, coal, electric, marine repair services and they also provide crane lift out, blackening and marine engineer services.

There is new plumbing throughout the whole boat (installed 2023), including a new tap and a new whale gulper pump with Nick Taylor Auto Electrical LTD.

She has had a new EPPING Stove installed (complete with an oven and a flat top- perfect for kettles or pans) in 2023 along with a new flue. This was serviced and sealed with Nick Taylor Auto Electrical LTD in 2024.

The whole flooring has been sealed and revarnished and there is new tiling throughout the fireplace, galley and bathroom.

The kitchen area is all new from 2023, with new custom made tables with built in 2 ring has hob and sink, custom made boiler cupboard and a custom made breakfast bar and storage shelves, all polished and varnished with Rustins polyurethane varnish in the shade walnut. All of the kitchen surfaces are made from solid wood oak.

All windows have been resealed in 2024 with new fixtures added. The window at the front of the boat has been replaced entirely in 2024.

All locks throughout the boat have been refitted and the front lock of the boat has been rewelded.

She has had a new bed area built complete with lots of under bed storage, constructed 2003.

All walls have been repainted with anti-mould paint (2024).

We are unsure of the maker of the boat, but FLUX feels like an old fashioned boat, with lots of quirks in her style and creation that any avid boat enthusiast would find quite charming.
