Boat Description
Hi everyone! We’re selling our beloved 39ft Dutch barge called Kokomo. She comes with a mooring in South Dock Marina, London. We’ve lived on her comfortably for the past 2.5 years, but now we need to move due to changes in personal circumstances.
She has the following features:
– Open plan kitchen with a living area, sink, fridge, gas hob and oven – all functional. Large windows give a lot of light, and because it’s a wide beam and not a narrow boat it is really spacious – the internal width is 2.2m.
– Bathroom with a shower and enough space to add a cassette toilet – though we’ve simply been using the clean and convenient communal showers and toilets.
– Cabin with a double bed and lots of storage space.
– Large deck with a great view for al fresco dining 🙂
– Extra storage on deck and pontoon.
– 2 functional solar panels.
– Functional Diesel engine.Internal dimensions:
Width: 2.2m
Length: 1.5m bedroom, 3.4m main area, 1.7m sofa area
Headroom: 2m main area, 1.4m sofa area, 1.2m bedroom. She was fully surveyed in October 2020. We blacked the hull and installed new anodes then, which means you won’t have to worry about any maintenance for the next couple of years.
The mooring is currently a leisure mooring (which means you don’t have to pay council tax), but can be upgraded to a full residential mooring for free. The mooring costs £6000/year, which is much cheaper than any other marinas in London (iirc Limehouse and Poplar are almost twice as expensive, despite being much more cramped). There is no transfer fee, so you won’t have to pay anything extra when buying her. The mooring is paid for until May this year.
The only other bills you have to pay is electricity (in our experience only £450/year, despite using electric heating rather than coal/wood – you can choose to use the wood/coal burning stove instead which would be even cheaper), replacing the gas bottles for cooking, and internet if you want (we had a reliable fibre connection).
The neighbours and marina staff are very helpful and friendly. Well-maintained communal shower/toilet facilities, washing machines and BBQ are available on site.
We never cruised her, but the previous owner had taken her cruising.
We think it’s just the perfect first boat – we were landlubbers with no boating experience before we bought her, but we found adjusting to boat life very easy.
