Can anyone advise on safe canal moorings in Manchester?

I will be passing through Manchester hopefully within the next month or so.

I will be coming from the Peak Forest Canal to Castlefield Basin.

I have been advised not to moor anywhere on the Ashton Canal. Does this advice still stand?

I'm prepared to do the Ashton Canal in one day if I have to but is the anywhere safe to moor in Manchester before I take on the Rochdale 9 locks.
