Difficulty in finding moorings in Bristol area.

Hi. I am interested in buying a narrow boat. 

  Really hoping to find a way to get a boat and live on it, though need to work also, hence trying to find one in Bristol area where work is.

There are waiting lists for Hanham Lock and Portavon marina. Does anybody have any knowledge of whether there are any other 'ways around it'?!

  Is is, for example, ever possible to moor anywhere else, at least until a mooring becomes available in Hanham or Portavon?
